Bob Palmer - Operations Manager "Problem Solver"
Bob Palmer is in the Kent Equipment employee spotlight! Bob is our Operations Manager, which he explains as a position that tries to understand all aspects of the business, then works to improve all areas to promote a better customer experience. In other words, “I’m a problem solver.” Before working at Kent Equipment he enjoyed a variety of positions including: box builder, diamond broker, furniture restorer, house painter, camera salesman, artist, and even bottle sorter (before those fabulous and smelly sorting machines came into existence). But now, he enjoys solving problems that no one even knew existed until they are solved, and working with people who really know how to do their jobs well.
Bob is married to his high school sweetheart, Suzie, for the last 5 years. They grew up together in the small Michigan town of Tecumseh. Between them, they have 5 children: Kylie, Duncan, Gordy, Cameron, and Jared. They also have an unusual rescue dog, a 6 year-old Ba-Shar (Basset Hound/Shar Pei) named Takata. He considers himself a lifelong learner and has attended Washtenaw Community College, Siena Heights University, Cleary University, and Penn State University. He and Suzie love food, art, and movies. When asked for favorite movie quotes, he quickly replied “Oh God oh God, we’re all going to die” and “Okay yes!” in reference to the movies Serenity and Under the Tuscan Sun.
He and his wife once took a trip where they were headed to Austin, TX and ended up in Englewood, FL instead. Along the way they blew a tire at 3 am in Arkansas, missed hitting a BBQ smoker grill on a highway in Memphis “by this much, lol,” saw a huge mountain lion in Alabama, and an armored car fused to the back of a pickup rolled over on the edge of a highway in Florida (with loose money, guards, and guns). Wow, what a trip that must have been! If he could meet anyone, he would love to spend the day with Leonardo da Vinci, just to be able to understand his thought process. He loves Suzie’s tacos, and hates Brussel sprouts (who can get past that smell???). He once owned a ’68 Karmann Ghia, and a ‘68 Chevy Nova, “I’d love to have either one of those back!”
Bob’s first job was riding an ice cream Hav-A-Bar bike during the summer at age 14, he’s been to 41 states, and has had 8 cover photographs published on various magazines! In his spare time, he enjoys woodworking, photography, ceramics, and adventures in his Jeep “Betty”. But, if he won the lottery, the first thing he would buy is and old VW Bus, in perfectly restored condition, so he and his wife could drive all over the country, relax, explore, and shoot photographs.
